SHEARERS’ HANDPIECES

Shearers take their own handpieces from job to job. Handpieces have a toothed blade, known as a cutter, which is driven back and forth over the surface of a comb. In this way the fleece is cut from the animal. Handpieces attach to ‘downtubes’ that are part of a farm’s shearing equipment. The Wool Shed’s collection of handpieces – antique to modern – is a magnet for shearing buffs.
